Dear colleagues
Join us for the International Conference on Forest Education, an important event focused on forest education and knowledge at all levels. Marking the culmination of more than a year of effort involving international and regional partners to assess the status and needs of forest education and to develop online tools, the conference will be instrumental in charting a path forward for forest education globally.
The conference aims to:
- catalyse and generate momentum and support for individual and multi-actor efforts, at sub-national to global levels, to strengthen forest education, training and knowledge systems; and
- raise awareness that forest education and knowledge are fundamental to achieving the Global Forest Goals, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Education for Sustainable Development for the 2030 framework, among others.
Up to 1 000 forest education stakeholders are expected to attend including policymakers, forest and environmental educators, forestry students, non-governmental organizations, community-based and indigenous peoples’ organizations, the private sector, and regional and international organizations.
Organizers
The conference is organized by IUFRO together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) in collaboration with the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), the Secretariats of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), with the support of the Government of Germany. Both IUFRO Research Group 6.09.00 Forest education and the Joint IUFRO/IFSA Task Force on Forest Education actively contribute to this important conference.
Format
The conference will take place virtually 22–24 June 2021. The programme is designed to accommodate participants in a wide range of time zones and will include a mixture of plenary and breakout sessions. Simultaneous interpretation in English, French and Spanish will be provided for plenary sessions and some breakout sessions.
